Senator Byron Dorgan Discusses the Federal Government Shutdown with The Wall Street Journal
Senator Byron Dorgan, a senior policy advisor at Arent Fox, was interviewed by The Wall Street Journal on the federal government shutdown and provided insight based on his firsthand experience the last time the government closed in 1996.
“Well things were very different then. In the mid 1990s the shutdown was largely over spending issues and that’s almost always the case of disputes with continuing resolutions,” said Sen. Dorgan. “But in this case it is not about spending. The Republicans have won on that issue – we have sequestration level spending. Democrats didn’t like it. Republicans are upset because they want a policy change on the Affordable Care Act.”
