Arent Fox Senior Government Relation Advisor Philip English Comments on AHCA Bill in Bloomberg BNA
Last week, the news focused heavily on the proposed American Health Care Act (ACHA) bill as it headed for a vote in the House of Representatives. The Bloomberg BNA article, published March 22, 2017, looks at the links between the health care bill and the proposed tax reforms the current administration and many in Congress have promised to present.
According to the article, whether the health care bill passes or not could have a significant impact on tax reform proposals, adding pressure to getting other reforms passed. The article goes on to point out that even if the bill passes, the divisions within the GOP have been exposed. The pressure on House Speaker Paul Ryan to push the bill through is also at its peak. Philip English, former Ways and Means committee member now Arent Fox Senior Advisor, said, “ Ryan has had to expend significant political capital to get the ACA repeal-and-replace bill to this point.” He went on, “His priority has always been tax reform, but it will be another test for him not only to get his people around a common bill, but also face a great deal of opposition from some parts of the economy.” To read the full article, click here.
