House Bill Introduced to Nullify Executive Order 13950

Representative Joyce Beatty, Democrat-Ohio, recently introduced a bill to nullify Executive Order 13950, which prohibits federal contractors, subcontractors, and grant recipients from inculcating “race or sex stereotyping,” “race or sex scapegoating,” and other “divisive concepts” in their workplace trainings.

As of this writing, the bill — H.R. 8595 — has 49 co-sponsors, all Democrats. And, the House leadership has been referred it to three committees, Oversight and Reform, Education and Labor, and Armed Services, for further consideration and action.

If the Democratically controlled House passes the bill, its prospects in the Senate, with its current Republican majority, are dim. Dimmer still are the chances that President Trump, who issued Executive Order 13950, would sign the bill into law. But, the incoming Biden administration could moot the bill if, as some anticipate, the new administration rescinds the Order.
