Working in partnership with the National Immigrant Justice Center, Schiff secured a grant of withholding of removal under the U.N. Convention Against Torture for a pro bono client facing threats of violence in El Salvador.
Our client and his partner fled El Salvador in June 2019 after the MS-13 gang murdered his partner’s 14-year-old daughter and continued to threaten him with death. Law enforcement authorities in El Salvador told him that they could not protect him and recommended that he and his partner leave. They fled El Salvador soon thereafter, and still fear the gang would torture or kill them if they returned.
Now our client is grateful for the opportunity to live safely in the United States.
