Billboard Names Charap, Finkelstein Top Music Lawyers of 2022
ArentFox Schiff is proud to announce that Partners Ross Charap and Matt Finkelstein have been named to Billboard’s Top Music Lawyers for 2022.
Ross and Matt were chosen for their work with top industry names, including Mick Jagger and Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones and their music company, Promopub; The Pointer Sisters; and music companies BMG Rights Management and Wise Music Group. Among the attorneys’ high-profile matters was assisting BMG with its acquisition of Mick Fleetwood’s stake in the Fleetwood Mac record catalog.
Billboard noted that Ross and Matt also help their clients navigate the rapidly expanding world of digital opportunities.
“In a world where digital music consumption by consumers and the use of music by new business platforms continues to grow exponentially,” Matt said, “it is vital that songwriters are paid fairly for the use of their songs.”
Over nearly 50 years of practice, Ross has counseled his clients ― composers, songwriters, recording artists, and independent music publishers as well as authors and filmmakers ― regarding their transactional, licensing, and litigation matters. Throughout, he has focused on recapturing his clients’ US copyrights and, more generally, buying and selling valuable music assets.
Matt represents large established international music publishing and rights management companies, new and upcoming players and legendary and developing artists and songwriters. He represents buyers and sellers in the purchase and sale of recorded music catalogs, music publishing catalogs and related royalty streams, and assists songwriters and recording artists and their families with recapturing US copyrights. Matt also counsels clients in the entertainment, technology, media, and publishing industries, including on copyright related matters.
Working together since 2007, Ross and Matt have negotiated, papered and closed more than $1 billion in copyright and other intellectual property rights transactions. They are members of ArentFox Schiff’s Media & Entertainment and Copyright practices.
