Prewitt Quoted on Illinois Bill Restricting Use of Noncompete Agreements

Partner Matt Prewitt was quoted on an Illinois bill that would restrict employers from using noncompete agreements on workers earning less than $75,000 annually and nonsolicitation agreements on those making less than $45,000.
Matt emphasized the positives aspects of the bill, specifically that employers will have a common set of standards.
“What I need as a lawyer is some certainty about the rules that I’m dealing with and some predictability, so [it is] a welcome thing for me to be able to advise clients with the benefit of a statute that sets some uniformity going forward,” Matt said.
The measure, Senate Bill 672, is awaiting Governor J.B. Pritzker’s signature.
