Phil English Quoted in The Wall Street Journal on Tax Reform in the Nonprofit Sector
Arent Fox senior government relations advisor and former Congressman Phil English was quoted in The Wall Street Journal article, “Charities Coax Lawmakers to Rethink Tax Plan,” on the potential impact that GOP tax reform may have on the nonprofit industry.
With the GOP plan, charitable deductions could drop off as much as $13 billion. In response, nonprofits are carefully approaching lawmakers in an effort to sway the GOP tax reform debate in a way that would not hurt nonprofits. However, the sector does not want to be perceived as anti-tax reform.
Mr. English said, “What I have most encouraged them [nonprofits] to do is offer a solution and not position themselves as adversaries of tax reform.” He continued, “If they [nonprofits] appear to be against tax reform, per se, they are running the risk of being adverse to many of their own donors.” To read the article in full, click here.
