Lupo Discusses Success of ArentFox Schiff on One-Year Anniversary of Merger

Completed on March 1, 2022, the merger between Arent Fox and Schiff Hardin created one of the top 100 U.S. law firms with more than 600 lawyers and policy professionals and an international client base spanning companies, governments, individuals, and trade associations.

Tony said the merger has tripled the volume of work originally predicted by firm leaders, and now the firm has boosted its practices across technology, intellectual property, and corporate to serve clients.

“There are so many more areas that are needed now,” he said. “We needed to get bigger. It’s just a much more complex legal paradigm than in the past.”

Tony noted, “There’s a recognition that the mid-size firms are either going to blow up and go to boutiques where they can compete, or they’re going to get larger. It’s economically challenging for a mid-sized firm in major commercial cities.”

Tony added that the merger was pursued because “we felt like we were leaving work on the table.”
