Law Firm Leaders: Cristina Carvalho Talks with Law360
Firmwide Managing Partner Cristina Carvalho recently spoke with Law360 about the firm’s goals and growth strategy, AF’s recent expansion into Boston, and ways to improve diversity in the legal profession.
Law360 reported that, “Cristina Carvalho has served as Managing Partner of Arent Fox LLP for the past four years. She is one of just a handful of women leading top U.S. law firms and may be the only Latina at the helm of one of the nation’s 200 largest firms. Carvalho was born and raised in Brazil, and attended law school there before launching her law career in the U.S. nearly three decades ago.”
When asked about the firm’s growth strategy over the next five years, Cristina said: “We are very strong in certain core industries. We have first-rate automotive, health and life sciences, hospitality, retail, nonprofit, and entertainment practices. And we organize ourselves around those industries. What I see as the strategy for the firm is we want to continue to grow in a healthy way, but we want to make sure as we grow we focus on adding depth to those core industries and continue to specialize in industries. Our growth strategy translates into a practice and core industry growth strategy rather than simply adding offices in different cities.”
